Fred James Blackmer

Fred James Blackmer, 66, of Sunderland, Vermont passed away peacefully Sunday, February 9, 2025 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on October 5, 1958 in Townshend, Vermont to Daniel Fleming Blackmer and Marion Louise Bourn (Hale). Fred attended schools in Sunderland and Arlington, Vermont. He worked various jobs including construction, foreman positions and his last working 20 plus years as a truck driver for Casella Waste Management. Fred met his soulmate Veronica Slade in 1991 and they were wed on November 4, 2000. Together they had three daughters. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering on cars, rides with his family, spending time with his close friends and family and making everyone laugh with his one of a kind sense of humor, which he passed on to his daughters and granddaughter Maddison. Fred is survived by his wife Veronica Blackmer, three daughters Robyn Yoder (Josh) of Rutland, Vermont, Angela Fuller (Chris) of Sunderland, Vermont and Molly Blackmer (Aaron) of Woodford, Vermont. His three grandchildren Maddison, Charlynn and Adam Jr. His mother Marion of Bennington, Vermont and siblings, Mary Goddard (Wayne) of Pownal, Vermont, Daniel F. Blackmer Jr. of Tacoma, Washington and Charles Blackmer of Manchester, Vermont, many beloved nieces and nephews, special friend James Aldrich and his family, and his special four legged companion, Hoss. Fred was predeceased by his Dad, Daniel Blackmer Sr, brother Johnny Hale, other beloved family members and special friend Larry Clayton. Fred did not want any formal services. There will be a celebration of his life in the coming months. Any donations in Fred's honor can be sent to Second Chance Animal Shelter 1779 Vermont Rte 7a, Arlington, VT 05250.
